2018 County Social Services Conference Information

"Brain Injury Services Building Capacity in Your Community" 

The Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa partners with the local Mental Health Disability Services Region (County Social Services) to provide reliable & relevant training to local service providers, professionals, and caregivers to enhance the capacity of the community serve individuals with brain injury in the communities we live, work, and play in.

5.5 Contact Hours will be available for nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech language pathologists, home and community based providers, and educators. DMACC IBON Provider #22. Full attendance required to earn contact hours. No partial attendance credit will be awarded. It is the licensees responsibility to determine if the continuing education programs they attend meet the requirements of their professional licensure board.

Objectives:

  1. The participant will learn about local IowaWorks Cedar Valley and available supports and services and how to access the Disability Resource Coordinators to partner with individuals experiencing brain injury to reach their vocational goals.
  2. The participant will learn about concussion and concussion management programs available for their community to support youth experiencing mild traumatic brain injury.
  3. The participant will learn about person centered planning philosophy while using identified assessment tools to show how they contribute to building a service plan to serve individuals with brain injury to live, work and play in the community.
  4. The participant will learn about the importance of identification of brain injury history working across multi-disciplinary teams to support brain injury survivors by utilizing an accessible assessment tool that has been determined valid and reliable for individuals experiencing brain injury.
  5. The participant will increase their understanding of trauma, create an awareness of the impact of trauma on behavior and develop trauma informed responses when serving individuals with brain injury and multi occurring conditions.
